GI - IBS

Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most commonly recognized functional gastrointestinal diseases.

Experts estimate that approximately 14% percent of the U.S. population1 suffers from the combination of impaired bowel function (i.e., diarrhea, constipation, or alternating) and abdominal pain that is the hallmark of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This disorder is associated with significant emotional distress, impaired health-related quality of life, disability, and high healthcare costs.2 The aggregate cost of Irritable Bowel Syndrome in the United States has been estimated at $1.7-$10 billion in direct medical costs, with an additional $20 billion in indirect costs, for a total of $21.7-$30 billion3. The condition accounts for up to 50% of visits to gastroenterologists each year.4
